For Mark working with dogs is his calling. His goal is to enhance and grow the human canine relationship, and specializes in training all breeds of pointing dogs, upland retrievers and spaniels. He established Sarahsetter Kennels in 1991. He was a pioneer of applied clicker and positive reinforcement training with field dogs in the early 1990s, long before that type of training found favor in the obedience world. He created an innovative program to enhance early development of puppies based on physiology, life stages and natural principles. In 1992 Jim Dobbs observed him teaching dogs to steady a specific location. Jim coined the command “place”, which is now used by trainers worldwide. His work has been published in Retriever Journal, Quail Unlimited, South Carolina Wildlife, Outdoor Life, Gray’s Sporting Journal, Sporting Classics, Quail Forever, Pheasants Forever, Field and Stream, among others. Mark has participated in field trials as both a handler and judge since 1979.
